The Second Age began rather peacefully until the year 764 B.B., when Gremlins, being greedy and mischievous creatures, waded through the southern parts of Verum Forest and attacked the Sylvans. Unexpected aid came from the Terrans, who managed to help drive the Gremlins back into the depths of the forest in the year 773 B.B.. The two races signed a protection treaty, called the Earth Unity Pact, promising to give aid whenever the other needed it.
Two hundred years later, the Terrans found themselves in a similar situation. In the year 975 B.B., The Uldra attacked the Terran city of Erias from within the Keylocke Mountains. The Terrans, expecting aid from the Sylvans, desperately fought to hold their own. But the Sylvans did not come, violating the pact they had formed with the Terrans. The Terrans lost Erias in the year 984 B.B., and relations between the Terrans and the Sylvans escalated, sparking the beginning of the Syltervan War in the year 996 B.B.. Many lives were lost, and eventually, exhausted from battle and saddened by death, the Terrans and Sylvans signed the Solum Pax Treaty in the year 1027 B.B., ending the war.
Many years later, Aelvac, the Dragon God of Shadow, began to be despised and feared by the races of Eldar. He sought the approval of the races. However, even the Dragons did not support him, saying "A god should not trifle himself with such tiny ambitions. Rather he should strive to set an example by placing his concerns above those who wish him ill will." This sparked Aelvac's rage.
Aelvac began plotting against the races of Eldar. Hating the Dragons for their lack of support and fearing they would aid the races of Eldar, he set his first plan into motion in the year 1034 B.B.. He spread rumors that the Dragons planned on attacking the other races. He even disguised himself as a lesser Dragon and attacked dozens of settlements to deceive the races. Their fear soon erupted into the Dragon Hunts, where every Dragon in the realm was said to have been hunted down and slain. The Dragon City, Kha-Zel Draga, was reduced to rubble and its ruins taken over by age and vegetation. The Dragon Hunts ended in the year 1096 B.B.
The sheer amount of Draconic Magic Energy transformed the area into a swamp. Named Wingspan Swamp, the Gremlins settled in the deepest parts, where the ruins of Kha-Zel Draga stood empty (these ruins were forgotten over the years, and would be rediscovered in a later age of history). The Draconic Magic Energy continued to transform the area over the years, eventually terraforming the deepest parts of the swamp into an even thicker bog (this area would eventually become known as Tailtalon Bog).
The massacre of the Dragons upset the Dragon Gods. They did not know of Aelvac's treachery. Aelvac took advantage of this and managed to convince them the races needed to be taught a lesson. They gave Aelvac permission to unleash a terrible curse; a plague to strike at the heart of Eldar. Aelvac believed it would grant him the respect he deserved.
The Virin Plague, as it became known, was unleashed in the year 1154 B.B., and it took thousands of lives. However, the plague spread to all corners of the land, infecting every race, threatening to bring everything to an end. To protect their creations, the Dragon Gods ended the disease in the year 1169 B.B.. However, because the disease was created using Dragon God Magic, it accidentally created a new race of blood sucking creatures eventually called the Umbra.
The Virin Plague died out, and peace was restored for a time. However over the years, many other wars were fought.
The Lore Campaign was the war that followed the Dragon Hunts and the Virin Plague Outbreak. On one side stood the Sylvans and Draycari, who had spoken out against the destruction of the Dragons and blamed the other races for the plague. On the other stood the Terrans and the Humans, who believed the Dragons had held too much magic power and were a threat, justifying their destruction. The Umbra, having just been created, focused on learning to control their existence, forming the kingdom of Nocturnia. Meanwhile, the other, more obscure races chose to remain in isolation. The war began in the year 1235 B.B., and resulted in hundreds of casualties. Eventually, the Lore Treaty was signed by all sides in the year 1272 B.B., ending the war with the promise to keep the history of the Dragons alive.
In the last one hundred years of the Second Age, the Methuselah War was fought. The war started in the year 1353 B.B., when the Umbra lost control of their abilities and went on a killing spree, feeding off the Humans and nearly bringing them to extinction. The other nations aided the Humans, eventually stopping the Umbra from losing further control. The final battle was fought atop the only waterfall in Eldar, giving it it's name. The Blood Oath Treaty was signed in the year 1374 B.B., ending the war. Afterwards, the Umbra began training themselves to feed off wild animals to prevent such a travesty in the future.
