Umbra

The Umbra are among the oldest of the races, though not quite as old as a few others. They are among the longer lived, and as such take their time living out their lives. They are patient and relentless with their goals, and feel no need to prove themselves to anyone. For the most part, Umbra are an isolated and independent race shrouded in mystery. Most prefer to stay within the kingdom’s borders, far in the northwest of the snowcapped mountains and icy tundra.
Umbra are able to live a little under two centuries, and are just as physically diverse as Humans, but do have a certain lithe grace and slender physique. An Umbra can stand from 5 feet to 6 feet tall and weigh anywhere from 140 to 230 pounds. Their skin shades are much paler in complexion and saturation than other races, and hair colors range from silver, platinum, and white to darker and more vibrant colors, such as black, dark auburn red, and deep brown. Their eyes, however, do not follow such patterns; every Umbra is born with a pair of blood-red eyes, most likely due to their intense magical nature. For the most part they dress in dark leathers and black clothing. When speaking Umbra use the common tongue of the land, but do on occasion revert back to their own language for more private matters.
Umbra are among the wise and knowledgeable, believing heavily in learning from the past. The legacy of their ancestors can be seen in the cities and towns scattered across the frozen landscape, far from the eyes of other kingdoms. They take pride in themselves, and do not hesitate to share that pride with their companions. In Umbra society, everyone plays a part. Children are taught from an early age how to fight and survive, as well as any other trades that might benefit the kingdom as a whole. They are treated as children until they are able to complete a great trial, which has become an important aspect of Umbra tradition. Upon completion of their trial, Umbra are given free reign to do whatever they wish within the kingdom as adults. This trial is often referred to as "The Proving".
Umbra hold combat in high esteem, and many seek out worthy opponents that they might test themselves against. Skill in battle is accompanied by deep respect, even more so by those warriors who master using magic in battle as well as weapons. As warriors, they are well known for their supernatural abilities. Also known as "The Night Folk", Umbra develop many unique traits throughout their youth, including an unnatural resistance to the cold, overwhelming speed, incredible strength for their size, an unmatched ability to remain hidden from sight, and an endurance that rivals even that of the Terrans. Other traits include night vision, an unparalleled sense of smell, and the magical ability to bolster their skills under the light of a full moon. Umbra are among the more magically attuned races, and focus their magical power through celestial icons such as the moon and stars.
Umbra find work through intense physical labor. Many become hunters or mercenaries, while others work as various kinds of jewelers and smiths. Umbra are well known for their craftsmanship and eye for detail, demonstrated greatly through their beautiful works of jewelry, embroidery, and fashion. One of the rarer trades seen in the Umbra kingdom is that of the silk trade, used in the fabrication and sale of dresses and various other forms of attire.
