The Eldar Chronicles

Created by Jason Dubour

Uldra are aggressive, callous, and domineering. Bullies by nature, they respect strength and power as the highest virtues. On an almost instinctive level, Uldra believe they are entitled to anything they want unless someone stronger can stop them from taking it. They rarely exert themselves off the battlefield except when forced to do so; this attitude stems not just from laziness but also from an ingrained belief that work should trickle down through the pecking order until it falls upon the shoulders of the weak. Uldra satisfy their blood lust by plundering villages and slaying any members of a race that stands against them. After ravaging a settlement, Uldra pick it clean of wealth, spare supplies, and useful items. They set the remains of villages and camps ablaze, then retreat to the mountainous lands in the west whence they came, their blood lust satisfied. Their lust for slaughter demands that Uldra dwell always within striking distance of easy and commonplace targets. They take slaves from other races on the grounds that anyone too feeble to fight back deserves little more than a life of suffering. Surrounded at all times by bitter enemies, Uldra cultivate an attitude of indifference to pain, vicious tempers, and a fierce willingness to commit unspeakable acts of vengeance against any who dare to defy them.
Powerfully built, Uldra typically stand anywhere from 6 feet to 8 feet in height, but have much greater muscle mass than is naturally seen, their broad shoulders and thick, brawny hips often giving them a slightly lurching gait. A fully grown Uldra can weigh from 200 to 275 pounds. They typically have dull green skin, coarse dark hair, beady yellow eyes, and protruding, tusk-like teeth. Many Uldra sport a combination of furs, hides, metal armor, and leathers to keep themselves clothed, while others may where next to nothing save for a few small garments. There are cornerstones in Uldra culture that determine when one is no longer considered a youngling: this most often is when an Uldra’s tusk-like teeth have fully grown, they have successfully completed a hunt and their first kill, and have successfully taken a mate. Once all these criteria are met, younglings are then considered adults by the rest. Uldra can live about a century, with those who survive the harsher times often living a few decades longer. They consider scars a mark of distinction and experience on the battlefield.

Uldra usually live amid squalor and constant mayhem. Intimidation and brutal violence are the glue that holds Uldra culture together. Their lands are spearheaded by a single Uldra acting as a war chief and king for the others. They settle disputes by making increasingly grisly threats until, when a rival fails to back down, the conflict escalates into bloodshed. Uldra who win these ferocious brawls not only feel free to take whatever they want from the loser, but also frequently indulge in humiliating physical violation, casual mutilation, and even outright murder. Uldra rarely spend much time improving their homes or belongings since doing so merely encourages a stronger Uldra to seize them. Uldra build only for defense, making no innovation or improvement to their lairs beyond mounting the severed body parts of their victims on spiked stockade walls or pikes jutting up from moats arid trenches. In fact, whenever possible, they prefer to occupy buildings and communities originally built by other races, often converting ruins, carving out cavern complexes, and transforming defeated foes' villages into fortified camps and strongholds.
Uldra admire power above all things, and believe that no other race can compare to their brute strength. They freely oppress any creature that stumbles into their domain, and they enslave or murder all who are not one of their own. They have a particular hatred for the Terrans and the riches they have amassed within the mountains. Uldra have few redeeming qualities. Most are violent, cruel, and selfish. Concepts such as honor or loyalty usually strike them as odd character flaws that tend to afflict members of the weaker races. Uldra are not a race born with the innate ability to harness and wield magic, though many consider it a threat anyway. Having no magic, some Uldra have developed basic forms of agriculture, but prefer to hunt, pillage, and forage in order to find what they need to survive. There is no inner working economy or trade, as Uldra simply challenge one another for things they desire.
