The Eldar Chronicles

Created by Jason Dubour

A kingdom rich in ancient grandeur, halls carved into the roots of mountains, the echoing of picks and hammers in deep mines and blazing forges, a commitment to homeland and tradition, and a burning hatred of Gremlins and Uldra━these common threads unite all Terrans.
Terrans are a stoic but stern race, ensconced in cities carved from rock and stone. Bold and hardy, Terrans are known as skilled warriors, miners, and workers of stone and metal. They have also acquired a reputation as dour and humorless craftsmen. These mountainous folk stand anywhere from 6 feet to a little over 8 feet in height. Terrans are broad and strong, weighing anywhere from 175 to 260 pounds. Their courage and endurance are more than a match for any of the other races.
Terran skin ranges from deep brown to a paler hue tinged with red, but the most common shades are light brown or deep tan, like certain tones of nature. Their hair, worn long but in simple styles, is usually black, grey, blonde, or brown, though paler Terrans often have bright or dark red hair. Male Terrans value their beards highly and groom them carefully. In terms of dress, most Terrans prefer complicated sets of armor, chain mail, and fur-like garments. Terrans can live anywhere from 100 to 400 years old. The oldest living Terrans often remember a very different world. This longevity grants them a perspective on the current world that shorter-lived races such as Humans lack.
Terrans are solid and enduring like the mountains they love, weathering the passage of centuries with stoic endurance and little change. They respect the traditions of their ancestors, tracing their heritage back to the founding of their most ancient strongholds in the youth of the world, and do not abandon these traditions lightly. These traditions include upholding Terran ideals of industrious labor, skill in battle, glory to the kingdom, and devotion to clan, family, and the forge. There is also a deep motivation to keep Terran culture and history alive. The oldest of the Terrans continue to speak in their native tongue, while those of the newer generations have adopted the common tongue as their main method of communication.
Individual Terrans are determined and loyal, true to their word and decisive in action, sometimes to the point of stubbornness. Many Terrans have a strong sense of justice, and they are slow to forget wrongs they have suffered. A wrong done to one Terran is a wrong done to the entire race, so what begins as one Terran’s hunt for vengeance can quickly become a full-blown feud.
The Terran kingdom stretches not only across the surface, but deep within and beneath the western mountains, where the Terrans mine gems and precious metals and forge items of wonder. They love the beauty and artistry of precious metals and fine jewelry, and in some Terrans this love festers into avarice. Whatever wealth they cannot find in the mountains, they gain through trade and battle, some even participating in contests of strength. They dislike boats, so enterprising Humans and other peoples frequently handle trade in Terran goods along pre-established land routes.
Those Terrans that travel to distant kingdoms are typically artisans, especially weaponsmiths, armorers, and jewelers. Some become mercenaries or bodyguards, highly sought after for their courage and loyalty. Terrans who take up the traveling life might be motivated by a desire for treasure━for its own sake, for a specific purpose, or even out of an altruistic desire to help others. Other Terrans are driven by inspiration or by seeking glory for their family, clan, kinsman, and kingdom. Ancestry is also a powerful motivator; A Terran might seek to restore their family’s lost honor, avenge an ancient wrong the family or clan suffered, or earn a new place in Terran society after having been exiled.
Terrans are most known for using magic in the form of runes and symbols carved into objects to imbue them with unique properties. However Terrans seldom delve into magic, and would rather avoid it altogether. Most deem it too complicated, and would rather achieve their goals through brute force. To a Terran, there is nothing quite like completing a task with the power of one’s own two hands.
